Throughout the years, Select works closely with Canada Lands in developing Village at Griesbach into a sustainable neighbourhood with distinctive features honouring the military legacy.
250 hectares/620 acres of prime heritage land in Edmonton are being transformed into an award–winning community. Developed by Canada Lands, the former Canadian Forces Base Griesbach, now known as the Village at Griesbach, offers a unique opportunity to showcase innovation and sustainability in land development on a grand scale with a variety of housing forms. Select has worked with various planners, geotechnical consultants, landscape architects, and legal surveyors on some unique urban projects in Village at Griesbach.
In this brownfield development Select designed and managed the logistics of the removal of existing infrastructure (roads, sewers, water, communications) while maintaining services to existing residential areas and facilities. Our innovative solutions successfully navigated the approval process, satisfied multiple stakeholders, and overcame challenging site conditions.
In Stage 18 the work included the re-construction of a section of Griesbach Road within the future Stage 23 & 24 development boundary. Select also managed a major infrastructure removal and grading operation in 2018 in anticipation of Lake 2 (Maple Leaf Pond) and Stage 27 development. In Stage 20, Select worked with the City and utility companies to incorporated a customized urban road cross-section to preserve the mature trees. This stage also included a bio-swale to capture and filter part of the overland runoff from the park / school site. Select adopted these innovative ideas and creative strategies to combine sustainability and urban living.
Select also conducted a technical review of the Griesbach Neighbourhood Design Report and updated servicing information with a technical brief to address City concerns.
